Street where the riches of ages are stowed...

Portobello Road

Ever since my childhood, I have wanted to visit the Portobello Road market. It all started with the song Portobello Road from Bedknobs and Broomsticks, which described the weird and wonderful things you could buy there. This interest was then further fueled by the book Fashion Babylon, which explained how designers would go there to get inspiration for their new collections and some vintage designer bargains! So, I decided enough was enough and I had to go there and experience it for myself...

There were thousands of stalls selling everything you could possibly want. There were buskers, incense sellers, clothing, music, food and so much more!

Portobello Market 4 - Notting Hill, London
The market is a great place to go to buy unique fashion pieces for pennies.

Even just people watching is fascinating!

Who needs Pizza Express when you've got stalls like this?

Unfortunately, I was rather disappointed that none of the jewelery sellers asked me "Who do you think you are? The Queen of Sheba?" when I was trying on their jewelery.

My purchases:

A feather headband similar to this one, which allows you to make so many different hairstyles. My favourite being a modern twist on a 30s look. This can be achieved by tucking you hair up into the back of the elastic.

and...

A watch locket necklace similar to this one.

If you are visiting London you MUST visit the Portobello market. It makes you feel like Austin Powers is just about to walk around the corner and it has a very Brighton feel to it. I recommend visiting on a Saturday and spending the whole day looking round. But wear comfortable shoes as you will be on your feet all day!

All of the Lights

I was messing around with my camera, experimenting with the lights in my house and it resulted in some pretty cool shots. The first two are of my bedroom light which I photographed on an automatic focus. However, the third photo was taken by accident when I was getting to grips with the manual focus on my camera. Tell me what you think about them...

The Brilliance of Bassman

Lillian Bassman

Images from

"Lillian Bassman was born in 1917 into an immigrant family of free-thinking intellectuals, and was brought up with a mind set  that allowed her to live as an independent and unconventional woman.  She worked as a textile designer and fashion illustrator before working at Harper's Bazaar with Alexey Brodovitch and ultimately becoming a photographer.

Bassman's fashion images are unique, achieve their effect through manipulation in the dark room. Appearing in Harper's Bazaar from the 1940s to the 1960s, her work was categorized by their elegance and grace."
