The Brilliance of Bassman

Lillian Bassman

Images from

"Lillian Bassman was born in 1917 into an immigrant family of free-thinking intellectuals, and was brought up with a mind set  that allowed her to live as an independent and unconventional woman.  She worked as a textile designer and fashion illustrator before working at Harper's Bazaar with Alexey Brodovitch and ultimately becoming a photographer.

Bassman's fashion images are unique, achieve their effect through manipulation in the dark room. Appearing in Harper's Bazaar from the 1940s to the 1960s, her work was categorized by their elegance and grace."

NEW BOND STREET

"Photographer Matt Stuart has the ability to tell stories in pictures and the timing and decisiveness are just spectacularly in the right moment. The next time one would whine about not having any good sceneries to shoot photos, the street photography of Matt Stuart would definitely give inspiration and insight."

"Born in 1974, Matt Stuart was raised in the leafy suburbs of Harrow, North West London. He admits to a less than distinguished school career, but was called upon aged 11 to play a trumpet solo in front of the Queen Mother. Her Majesty’s reaction is not recorded.

A little later, in 1986, Matt discovered skateboarding after watching the film “Back to the Future”. Skating occupied his every waking moment until 1994, when he looked up from the half-pipe and noticed that girls had got a lot more interesting. He also indulged in a brief, ill-advised affair with Kung Fu.

Matt’s father, keenly aware that his son would never be the next Bruce Lee, introduced him to photography, handing over books by Robert Frank & Henri Cartier-Bresson. Ever since then, photography has been Matt’s overriding passion, although he’s still quite interested in skateboards and girls. (But thankfully not Kung Fu)."

Inspiration

My Best Friend

As I mentioned in my previous post, I was inspired by a number of things when choosing the pieces for it. Not only was I inspired by a few things in the high-street and a few designer's collections, but also my best friend's jewellery. So, she has very kindly sent me some photos of her jewellery to post on my blog.

If you want some jewellery like this, check out my previous post called "Fashion Gem". Comment below and don't forget to follow! xx

The Turquoise Trend

Recently, I have been noticing a lot of turquoise jewellery on the high-street as well as in the top fashion brand's collections. I think jewellery is one of the few things which can make an outfit look instantly that little bit more chic and expensive. This post is inspired by my good friend Thea, who showed me her beautiful turquoise heart shaped ring from a local jewellers set into a gorgeous silver band, with lots of intricate silver detail.
Enjoy....
